Putting evidence to work

This report explores how we can help new teachers use research evidence to inform their teaching.

Education has, in recent years, seen a resurgence of interest in evidence-based approaches to improving teaching and schools. ‘Putting Evidence to Work’ involved interviews and consultations with a range of experts from education, psychology and related fields, and combined this insight with a short review of literature examining the barriers and ways forward for supporting teachers and school leaders to make the best use of research evidence.

The report identifies:

  • The knowledge requirements needed to make sense of research
  • Important resources for new teachers and how this content might be sequenced across the two-year programme
  • A process of applying evidence to practice which supports both leadership and teaching development
  • How we might approach evaluation of this aspect of the programme

Research and Strategy is working with teams across the organisation to support our teachers being able to apply the best available evidence to the advantage of their pupils.
