Frequently Asked Questions
- What will I learn on the Careers Leader programme?
You’ll learn how to create and implement a whole-school strategy that lasts for three years. The programme provides a foundation for long-term improvement through blended learning modules, in-person training, online learning and personalised support.
Our high-quality training is based on the latest research. This covers topics such as: building partnerships with business, embedding careers into the curriculum, improving information, advice and guidance and measuring impact.
- What are the learning outcomes of the Careers Leader programme?
Once you complete the programme, you’ll have:
- a new careers strategy that will span over three years
- completed an in-year careers project
- stronger leadership skills to make sure the whole school is on board with your careers strategy
- completed training that is based on the latest research and reflects the current labour market and economy
- made connections with other careers leaders, regionally and nationally
- What involvement do I need from the wider Senior Leadership team in school? What is the in-school sponsor role?
If you’re in a middle leadership role, this point of contact will become your in-school sponsor. They’ll support you to have the authority and capacity to apply your learning and improve careers across the school. They’ll provide feedback on how your strategy aligns with wider school priorities and support you to influence colleagues. We recommend arranging regular check-ins.
If you’re already on the senior leadership team, it’s likely you won’t need the support outlined above. We recommend your headteacher is assigned as a point of contact as a minimum to support in extenuating circumstances, such as long-term absence.
We ask that the school supports you in the following ways to ensure the programme can have impact in your school:
- Ensure that you have the time available to complete the programme and apply the learning.
- Supports you to share your learning with the wider school staff through CPD and staff briefings.
- Supports you to communicate the strategy and identified priorities with governors and senior leadership.
- How will I connect with other careers leaders regionally and nationally?
We work with careers leaders across England and provide opportunities at our events to connect with careers leaders at a national and regional level. At virtual seminars you will get to know careers leaders who are working in schools in your region.
Through events, virtual seminars and visits to other schools, you’ll share ideas, collaborate and problem-solve with other schools.
We encourage careers leaders to get involved with our regional and national networks. A great place to start making the most of this community is by following @TFCareersNetwork and @TF_Ambassadors on Twitter. You should also follow the TF Careers Network website for updates, news and resources.
