Want to get nominated onto our Training Programme? Here’s all you need to know

This section provides answers to candidates' frequently asked questions about our Training Programme Nomination.

Browse below to find the information you need. We'll update this page throughout the year.

What is Training Programme Nomination?

Training Programme Nomination is a dedicated route for support staff and talented individuals to train as teachers on our Training Programme. As a nominated trainee, you’ll get to stay at a school you already know and continue to earn a salary.

All you need is a nomination from your Headteacher to help you get onto our Training Programme.

How do I get nominated?

You need to be either a current or former member of support staff or an individual known to the school (for example: governor, mentor, former staff member).

If you’re interested in this route, you’ll need to speak with your headteacher (or a delegated senior leader at your school) and get them to nominate you by enquiring here.

What qualifications do I need to have?

To gain a place on our Training Programme, you'll need to have:

  • a 2.2 degree or above
  • usually a degree or an A-level (at grade B or higher) in the subject you’ll be teaching
  • GCSE grade C / 4 in maths and English
  • for primary teaching, grade C / 4 in one science subject

If you do not meet these GCSE requirements, please contact us to discuss your circumstances and equivalency testing.

You can get more information about eligibility requirements for your chosen subject.

How much does it cost to get onto the Training Programme?

Our teacher training is free for the trainee, although schools will have to pay a fee to enrol you onto the programme.

What training will I get before I start teaching?

Our initial teacher training is a hybrid of both online and in-person learning, which will equip you with the core skills you’ll need in the classroom. You’ll:

  • learn the theory and practice of education and how to manage a classroom
  • beef up your knowledge of the curriculum
  • visit other schools to observe teaching in different settings
  • build relationships with leaders across your school
  • get to know other trainees

Summer Institute takes place from June to August. You can complete it full time or part time.

As part of this initial training, you’ll need to be available for five days to complete your school-centred learning (SCL) in person at a different school.
