How to use SharePoint

This page provides guidance on using Teach First’s SharePoint site.

What is SharePoint?

SharePoint is a document management and storage tool created by Microsoft. Teach First uses it so external partners (such as delivery partners) can share and collaborate on content necessary for programme delivery.

How to access SharePoint

Logging into SharePoint for the first time

If you need to use SharePoint as part of your work with Teach First, you’ll be sent an email invitation to set up an account as part of your onboarding process.

If you’ve not received an email please check your junk or spam folders. If you can’t locate the email after checking, please let us know.

Once you’ve received your email, take the steps below:

  1. The email will contain a link to SharePoint, and the name of the link will be the name of the SharePoint site you have been added to (eg ‘Teach First delivery partners’). Right-click on this link and from the drop-down menu that appears, select the option to copy the link address.

  2. Open a new private browsing window in your web browser of choice. Private windows are available across all major browsers and are referred to by various terms, including ‘Incognito’ (Chrome), ‘InPrivate’ (Edge) and ‘Private Browsing’ (Firefox and Safari).

  3. Paste the copied link from your email invitation into the address bar of the private browsing window and navigate to the page.

  4. You will then be presented with a welcome page and two options to log in: ‘Microsoft account’ and ‘Organizational account’. Below these, you will see an option to create a Microsoft account.

  5. If your organisation uses Microsoft 365 click on ‘Organizational account’ to proceed. You’ll then be asked to log in. You’ll need to use the same email address and password you use to log in to your work email account.

Please note: if you’re unable to login here, this will likely be due to your work account. Please contact your IT team to ensure your account credentials are functional.

  6. If your organisation does not use Microsoft 365, but you have an existing Microsoft account linked to your invited email address, select ‘Microsoft account’ on the Welcome to SharePoint Online page.

Please note that your Microsoft account must be tied to the same email address at which you received the invitation email.

  7. If neither of the above options will work for you, click on ‘Create a Microsoft account’ to register for a Microsoft account using your work email address.

Please note that you must register for this account with the same email address at which you received the invitation email. You will only need to register for a Microsoft account once – after this, you can log in from the welcome page using the ‘Microsoft account’ option.

  8. Once you’ve logged in for the first time, do not use the link in the invitation email again.

If you click on it again while signed into a different email account, doing so will remove your access and lock you out of the Teach First SharePoint site.

  9. You should now be able to access SharePoint using your registered account.

Suspicious activity message

When attempting to log in to the Teach First SharePoint, you may encounter an error message stating that your account has been blocked due to suspicious activity.

When this occurs, please send the following message to your IT team:

My account is being blocked by Azure Identity Protection.  It will be marked at risk on our Azure tenant. The Teach First tenant will have seen that my account is at risk and blocked it.

The Azure admin should please check this link:

https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_AAD_IAM/IdentityProtectionMenuBlade/~/Overview

You should find my account is showing at risk – this may be due to unfamiliar sign-in properties, or my credentials may have been leaked.

Your IT team should be able to issue a password reset to fix the issue for you. They can dismiss the risk from the Azure portal once they have verified that your account is safe.
